Ajax Tavern Description:
The owners of Tra Vigne and Mustards Grill in the Napa Valley have brought their French cuisine to the ritzy mountain resort of Aspen. The patio on the Gondola Plaza---where the crack-of-eleven club meets to ski Aspen Mountain---is the best people-watching site in town during lunch and après ski and offers a picturesque view of mountain meadows in summer. Inside, The Tavern is snug with mahogany walls, booths around the perimeter and softly lit hand-blown glass fixtures. We actually enjoy waiting for a table at the small bar which features micro-brews and a first-rate Napa wine list. The petite bistro-style menu trumpets a raw bar that pays homage to oysters, clams, shrimp and crab; order the sea-worthy nauticals à la carte or splurge on the plateaux de fruits de mer. Heartier dishes include Colorado lamb Bolognese, steak frites, white wine-splashed mussels, and quiche Lorraine.
