Bittercreek Ale House Description:
This downtown pub features high ceilings with exposed wood and sturdy steel I-beams framing dark-rouge walls. The menu offers the usual mix of burgers and clam chowder, but it's been updated by chef Lisa Buck and local restaurateur Dave Krick. No ho-hum chicken wings here. Instead choose from tender seared ahi paired with lively pickled ginger and wasabi, or crisp flash-fried squid matched with a sriracha aïoli and saké dipping sauce. Sandwich options include Thai chicken and grilled eggplant pitas. While this fare stands apart from typical pub grub, the Alehouse still serves up the classics with inventive twists---including a standout Reuben. On the lighter side, we recommend the Spinach Fandango with ginger pico and voodoo-spiced wild salmon. To satisfy thirsty patrons, Bittercreek carries 20-plus local and regional beers on tap, all guaranteed to keep the mood jovial. In the spirit of the times, Krick has moved his menu to 50 percent local-organic produce and meats. There's an awning-covered patio for warm days, but inside-seating is tight and noise levels can be strident, so go early.
