Soul Fire Description:
Red and orange, bright and shiny, this barbecue joint in Allston Village has "student hangout" written all over it. Not only is the 'cue plentiful and cheap, but the tunes are so old-school they're new again. As the name suggests, soul music from the golden era of Stax and Motown rules the airwaves here---as well as the countertops, which are plastered with old LP covers. Not subscribing to any one style, the kitchen turns out dry-rubbed brisket, ribs and chicken, then lets you do the saucing from a homemade-sauce bar---three are heated, two are cold. It won't blow your mind, but it's certainly serviceable when you've got a hankering---especially now that you can wash it down with a microbrew or lawnmower beer---and the staff is as sweet as could be.
