Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar Description:
A location of a national chain of upscale steakhouses. The menu features prime beef, chops, seafood, chicken, salads, and desserts. All of the wines on their list, known as the Fleming's 100, are available by the glass.
Arlington station, on the MBTA Green Line, is the closest subway stop.
Fleming's, owned by the same people behind nearby P.F. Chang's China Bistro, sits in a prime space that links the Theater District with Park Plaza. The dining room manages both swank and class with shades of crimson and amber, lots of leather and an open kitchen. The menu lists the standard collection of sirloins, New York strips and filets, and the meat is of high quality. Sides have interesting twists---take chipotle mac 'n' cheese or creamed corn with Parmesan and Gruyère. Seafood, too, is unexpectedly well-thought-out, be it lobster tempura with two sauces or rare seared tuna au poivre with poppy seeds and tomato-sherry vinaigrette. Fleming's manages to pull all of this off without being nearly as pricey as its competition. The rub? Aside from the unshakeable corporate aura, smaller portions. But that's actually a relief for today's savvy diners---especially when they consider the desserts, not to mention the topnotch wine program that targets both the casual sipper (with 100 wines by the glass) and the rarity-seeking connoisseur (with a reserve list).
