Monarch Bay Club Description:
Most Orange County residents don't even know this on-the-beach restaurant exists. That's because only guests of the adjacent St. Regis Resort, Monarch Beach can dine here next to owners of Monarch Bay's surrounding multi-million-dollar homes. This exclusive beach club, which also includes a bar and lovely outdoor patio, sits right on the sand with sweeping views of craggy cliffs, waves and South Laguna coastline. For all of its pretension as a private beach club, it is actually rather laid back, with beach-goers, families and singles at the bar. Couples and groups come together for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch for a fine dining experience in the main dining room, which has tasteful décor and floor-to-ceiling windows to highlight the striking ocean view. St. Regis chef Frederic Castan oversees the seasonal menu that emphasizes seafood, steaks and chops, such as a lobster velouté with lemon confit, poached halibut in a chorizo stew, Loch Duart salmon with a horseradish-and-leek fondue and a blackened New York steak in a bordelaise sauce. The wine list, taken from the resort's collection, is an impressive selection largely sourced from France and California.
