Piazza d'Angelo Description:
Piazza D'Angelo has been packing them in for 20-plus years. The fare is standard Italian but service is above what one expects of a family-style trattoria. An airy main dining room and an enticing garden patio are perfect for warm Marin evenings. Antipasti are stronger than the entrées, including a robust sauté of prawns and artichokes in a lemon and white wine sauce and a carpaccio of paper-thin slices of beef. Most of the pastas, while house-made, are a bit more pedestrian such as decent capellini al pomodoro and fettuccine with clams, mussels and prawns---neither rock our world but are perfectly edible. The fettuccine sautéed with portobello mushrooms and asparagus, however, is a standout. Main courses aren't going to reinvent the cheese-wheel either, but the seafood soup with prawns, sea bass, monkfish, clams and mussels in a spicy tomato-garlic broth is tasty, as is the crisp-skinned herb-roasted chicken. The wine list is well-priced and features selections from around the globe with an emphasis on Italy, including some limited edition small-production varietals.
