Gladstone's 4 Fish Description:
For years, Gladstone's cuisine has had a bad reputation, and our past meals there were quite unpleasant. But now that the SBE group (Katsuya, The Bazaar, XIV) has taken over the kitchen, the food has changed drastically, and for the better. The sweeping views of the Pacific and the beach are no longer the only reason to wait in line to get a table right along the coastline with your family or friends from out-of-town. The menu is still the same, but is executed with better fresh produce and more precision. Dining at Gladstone's has become a pleasant, casual, culinary experience built around seafood. There are many items to choose from: the famous chowder, the seafood platter (perfectly cooked and tasty crab legs and shrimps, gorgeous oysters), the sashimi ahi tuna, the crab cakes, and many salads for appetizers. The catch of the day (and its preparation) varies; we enjoyed a whole red rock fish grilled over wood and served with handmade linguini, cherry tomatoes and sweet basil sauce. The simple dish was exactly what it needed to be with its scents of the wood, crispiness of the skin, and moistness of the fish. Other options include Parmesan halibut, salmon with crab stuffing, and, of course, fish and chips. If your appetite demands meat, have the Piedmontese short ribs. Even the brownie with ice cream and chocolate sauce tastes better now. Gladstone's also has a long list of specialty cocktails worth the drive, particularly enjoyable combined with the sunset.
