Don Cuco Mexican Restaurant Description:
Part of a family-owned chain with locations in Toluca Lake, Simi Valley and Newhall, the Moorpark branch is one of the best looking. The appealing décor includes a long bar with tall wooden stools adjoining the dining room. There are also stained-glass depictions of what look like Aztec pyramids. Big wooden booths are dressed in tan-and-green striped fabric, while metal lanterns and an iron candelabra hang from the ceiling. On the covered patio, oversize wooden tables and chairs are comfortably spaced. The cooking style hails from the Yucatan. The food enlivens your palate with zesty flavors, starting with the spicy salsa that comes with house-made tortilla chips. An intense mole sauce blankets a chicken enchilada. Seared ahi shows up on a salad, as does a salmon filet. Enchiladas del mar are stuffed with crab, shrimp and fish then topped with a chipotle cream sauce. New York and skirt steaks, marinated, grilled and served with beans, are very reasonably priced. Margaritas are mixed with premium tequila. Live Mexican music keeps things revving on the weekends.
