Kalani's Description:
You won't find Spam, Hawaii's favorite meat product, at Kalani's, as Spam is an old-school island comfort food. Kalani's serves modern Hawaiian cuisine, which fuses the ingredients of that state's polyglot people. Pulehu baby-back ribs, inspired by upcountry Maui cooking, are flame-grilled and basted with sesame-garlic soy sauce. Spinach and seared ahi salads feature greens imported from Maui. Kalbi short ribs, the Korean classic, balance sweet and savory flavors and provide the filling for a winning sandwich. We also like the opakapaka with fresh ginger and scallions laced with peanut and sesame oil and served with steamed bok choy and rice. The sushi menu encompasses sashimi, traditional nigiri sushi and (we suppose) obligatory new-style rolls made with avocado and sauces. Stenciled palm fronds decorate Kalani's walls, and stylish folk gather at the curved glass bar for specialty cocktails, hamachi tartare and potato skins cradling dollops of ahi poke.
