Jeff and Lindsay Jackson are home at The Range in Santa Margarita, offering fine cuisine and a vintage atmosphere that celebrate the American West. The ever-changing menu reflects chef Jeff's wide-ranging experience, including growing up on a farm, which inspires him to source products from small local producers. His classical culinary knowledge takes center stage with upscale dishes such as Stinking Rose pizzette, pan-roasted quail with Italian grits, salmon with vegetable bayaldi, pork porterhouse with roasted Windrose Farms fingerling potatoes, Hearst Ranch beef carpaccio, porcini ravioli, sautéed frogs' legs, and even Drunken Blue Mussels in Pabst Blue Ribbon. The wine list reflects the restaurant's location in the middle of San Luis Obispo County's wine country, but some imports are available, and the by-the-glass selection is notable for such a small establishment. In keeping with the Jacksons' laid-back retro theme, reservations and credit cards are not accepted.
