Located just south of the city of Santa Barbara, Summerland Beach Café keeps the locals coming back for breakfast and lunch by offering a menu filled with reliable standards that has changed little over the years The setting is decidedly casual, attracting everyone from families with young children to a group of Harley riders who make this their brunch stop every weekend. Back in the 1890s, the building was a house, and inside seating is defined by a series of private nooks. We prefer the ocean view from the patio. You can get breakfast at any time, and the menu is heavy on egg dishes, especially generously sized omelets like the Klassic Kendrick, featuring plenty of Brie and spinach, and the Creative Stereo, stuffed with baby artichokes and thick-cut bacon. Pancakes, though, are only available on Wednesdays, so take heed. The sandwich lineup includes the very juicy La Rosa, a chicken breast topped with grilled eggplant, peppers and onions; and the best-selling Jack Pot, a triple-decker club. The good burgers all measure a third of a pound. For such decent grub, expect a long wait on weekends, not to mention service that tends to be overly casual and somewhat rushed.
