Catch Description:
Catch, the signature restaurant of Casa del Mar, offers diners a beachy but chic setting to savor the market-inspired cuisine of chef Michael Reardon. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of the Pacific Ocean and its sunsets, and the Santa Monica Pier and its famous Ferris wheel, but don't let that distract you too much from appreciating what's on your plate. Dishes are arranged by size in categories with cheeky names like "not so big plates to share" and "second mortgage plates," which is where you'll understandably find the Maine lobster risotto and the filet mignon. The menu of shareable plates emphasizes seafood---appropriate given the oceanside locale---but there are also options that ought to please most palates. Start with the gulf prawn flatbread with manchego cheese and romesco sauce; little neck clams and chorizo on grilled bread; or beef carpaccio with crispy garlic, Parmesan and arugula. Heartier options range from braised veal with asparagus, chanterelles and polenta to linguine with Channel Islands squid, shrimp and basil. On our visit we enjoyed the day's special of halibut. The central wine bar (formerly the sushi bar) offers guests a relaxed environment to order a bite to eat and browse the selection of classic cocktails and wines available by the glass, carafe and bottle.
