While the Westside has a select group of high-profile Italian eateries, chic Montana Avenue keeps one of its best-kept secrets tucked away for local cognoscenti. This tiny, intimate and moderately romantic restaurant is frequented by the neighborhood folks and largely undiscovered by outsiders---just the way the regulars like it. Vincenzo is a collection of small, candle-illuminated tables dressed in linen, with a granite-topped bar lined with freshly baked tarts in the rear. On the buttercup walls are mounted rustic china and small wooden wine cabinets. One of our few complaints is that the prices of those wines tend to be a bit on the high side for a neighborhood eatery. But the kitchen does an admirable job, turning out a refreshing beef carpaccio, respectable porcini risotto, veal in mushroom sauce, grilled shrimps in lemon sauce, and a dish of penne in a vodka-infused pink sauce.
