Sky Lounge Description:
With commercial air service re-established at Sonoma County's Charles Schultz airport, a full-time restaurant is just the ticket. Choose a taupe booth under black-and-whites of World War II era bombers, the tabletop sporting a snug leather jacket. Or book a patio or window seat to catch live runway action. Area business park workers make the short-haul at lunchtime for hefty burgers and sandwiches like rib-eye with blue cheese and caramelized onions or a soft shell crab BLT with wasabi mayo. For dinner, begin your approach with a wedge salad and milky-fresh ranch dressing before climbing to various cuts of Painted Hills beef. Or consider the tasty meatloaf, shaped with a light touch and infused with Worcestershire and bacon drippings. The kitchen hasn't yet hit full throttle, though. Sides like spinach, candied carrots, and Parmesan potatoes can upstage mains---in flavor, execution, portion sizing. Raw bar fare, still prepped in the kitchen, is inconsistent: oysters mignonette are fine enough, but yellowtail kampachi, overloaded with spicy heat and not quite seared or raw, doesn't work. Keep your seatbelt fastened until Sky Lounge reaches a comfortable cruising altitude.
