Mama Dip's Description:
After 30-plus years in business, Mama Dip's, the work of cookbook author Mildred Edna Cotton Council, remains a local legend. Council's family called her "Dip" when she was growing up because her long arms and height allowed her to reach into the rain barrel when the level was low and dip out the water. Her restaurant puts some "South in your mouth" with an unchanging menu of traditional Southern staples such as Brunswick stew, chicken and dumplings, pork heaped with yellow squash casserole, stewed collards, and fried okra. The fried chicken sets a crunchy-crusted standard that's hard to beat. Don't fill up to the point where you don't have room for some pecan pie or banana pudding.
