Lantern offers diners a cozy, unpretentious setting with trained and considerate service to match. Chef-owner Andrea Reusing is a leader in the sustainable farming movement, and her restaurant reflects her philosophy. Reusing's menus make use of local farmers' produce and meats almost exclusively. It follows that her tantalizing Pan-Asian dishes reflect the seasons---local pasture-raised pork and chive dumplings; salt and pepper shrimp with fried jalapeƱos, coriander and sea salt; and whole North Carolina flounder with garlic, chilies, tamarind, carrot salad and jasmine rice. Her signature dish, tea-and-spice-smoked chicken served with shrimp fried rice, is available all year. For dessert, try the outrageous hot chocolate cake with roasted peanut ice cream or the passion fruit cake with toasted coconut ice cream and salted macadamia nuts. The wine list is intelligently chosen for Asian-influenced food featuring bottles from France, Germany and Austria.
