Blue Restaurant & Bar is a sophisticated restaurant that offers flavors from around the Mediterranean region.
Executive Chef Gene Briggs has created a multi-cultural menu. Experience Moroccan Tagine, Whole Roasted Mediterranean Sea Bass, or Tenderloin ala Blue.
Blue is designed to tempt all of your senses.
Blue Restaurant & Bar occupies surprisingly spacious digs on the ground floor of Hearst Tower, but the atmosphere remains almost cozy and intimate in spite of the size. Perhaps it's the warm welcome or the attentive service both from servers and the owner, who stops by to check that all is well. The menu tempts with a wide range of Mediterranean-inspired dishes, from chicken kebabs with some of the best falafel this side of New York City to Greek meatballs. A tomato-bread soup tastes of bright sunshine in Italy, steak is accompanied by potato and celeriac purée, and the sea scallops are served with orzo cooked risotto-style and topped with sautéed arugula and toasted pumpkin seeds, the bitter greens cutting the richness of the scallops and the orzo and the seeds adding a crunchy textural surprise. Desserts are equally appealing, but the crema Catalana is the stand-out. The tres leches with caramelized pineapple is a classic done right, and the pineapple adds a tropical touch. The bar serves up specialty martinis and a nice selection of wines by the glass. Numerous items are marked as able to be made gluten-free upon request.
