Owens American Bistro Description:
Owen's Bistro, a highly personalized venture of young restaurateurs James and Denise Kelly (the place is even named after their son), is another indication that the Inland Empire dining scene is coming of age. The intimate restaurant, which feels a bit more like San Francisco than suburban Inland Empire, is housed in a century-old building with worn brick that is livened up with splashes of orange. The cuisine is Californian with equal influences from Europe and Asia, and the menu changes frequently to showcase fresh seasonal produce. Among starters might be a portobello mushroom "sandwich," layered with puff pastry and garlicky aïoli. We are particularly fond of the luxurious and artfully presented mushroom cream soup laced with blue cheese. Mushrooms and blue cheese might turn up again in a dish of chicken with wild mushroom tortelloni in Gorgonzola cream, or ravioli filled with butternut squash might be given the treatment of brown butter and spiced pecans. Pan-seared salmon sometimes features a vanilla beurre blanc, and short ribs are served in a bordelaise. Finish with bananas Foster or other attractively plated desserts.
