West Street Grill Description:
James A. O'Shea and Charles Kafferman, the owners of this delightful New England inn-style restaurant in historic Litchfield, are food lovers: born to be restaurateurs, they enjoy what they do and it shows. They are undoubtedly all the more happy with this very rural location in that they have easy and direct access to the products the kitchen uses. Tomatoes and squash come straight to the table from the garden. With such pristine ingredients from the land and the sea, executive chef James Cosgrove masterminds dishes that retain the sincerity of the original product.

Review :
On a recent visit to Connecticut, I was taken out to dinner at West Street Grill in Litchfield. I had no expectations for the restaurant other than my hosts informing us that this was arguably the best restaurant in the state if food reviewers are to be believed. Needless to say, I took this with a grain of salt. Upon entry I was impressed with the old-world yet urbaine, New England feeling. After an exceptionally warm greeting we ordered a number of intruiging sounding dishes fresh from local farms and dayboat fish and shellfish. What arrived were amazing dishes beautifully presented, intensely flavoured, carefully planned and meticulously executed. The farm fresh greens, house terrines, house cured wild king salmon and shrimp tempura were perfect starters. My braised short ribs in Guinness were an astonishing melt in the mouth. All of us had similar excellence! I am running out of adjectives but the desserts were also spectacular, complemented by seriously professional service staff. I would detour to this restaurant on a moment's notice! Go there!
Trust me, I know.
