Christy's Description:
Landmark dining establishments like Christy's, which has been a fixture in the Gables for over 20 years, have a tendency to age in dull, predictable fashion. All the appealing aspects that made this steakhouse popular to begin with are still here: big, aged cuts of red meat (the best items on the menu), old-fashioned Continental dishes like veal Oscar, oversized baked potatoes, baked Alaska, an extensive wine list, formally dressed waiters, and clubby atmosphere. Yet the restaurant seems tired and all too self-satisfied with its past. Plus, the world has changed so in the past two decades that Christy's seems as out of place as an octogenarian on a college campus. All of which, depending upon your point of view, makes the dining experience here either irritatingly passé, or a unique retro treat.
