Part of a nationwide chain. In addition to the standard menu, a family style dinner is served.
Chicago restaurateur Rich Melman turns restaurant ideas into money, and this handsome South Coast Plaza hot-spot, which is patterned after a New York City place called Guido's, is definitely one of his most lucrative ventures. The bustling, upscale, retro East Coast ambience appeals to everyone from blue collar families to successful business types. The venue showcases high ceilings, mahogany columns and a grand old vintage bar that was imported from Europe. The restaurant and bar get extraordinarily busy in the evening, so Maggiano's has installed an inside take-out window, complete with a special menu and curbside pickup. The restaurant serves huge portions of southern Italy-inspired dishes meant to please the masses. A few, like rosemary chicken and steak al forno, make satisfying one-person entrées. Many others, particularly the pastas, are tasty and substantial crowd-pleasers best suited to family-style dining. In fact, there's a nightly family-style menu offered where the whole table shares from massive portions. The service here is also part of the charm, with a staff of professional servers who are eager to please.
