Nage Description:
Nage D.C. has followed in the footsteps of its Rehoboth Beach predecessor, Serving up classic coastal dishes with contemporary flair, Nage has reinvented the concept of the East Coast eatery.
Playing off its reputation as a beachy favorite from Rehoboth, Nage came to DC---but its arrival created no stir. But times have changed, folks. The cooking here is dynamic, edgy and unexpected, especially in a small place that is actually a trendy hotel coffee shop. Be sure to check out the chalkboard specials to see what treats the chef has created for the day, maybe a sweet potato soup with crème fraîche, candied pecans and an unexpected flavor component, cocoa oil, made from Dutch cocoa. But the regular menu has its own delights: a classic French onion soup that is one of the best in town; a seafood-rich bouillabaisse-like stew that's a stunner; and a lobster potpie (seasonal). Burger buffs should try the Nage Burger. What makes it so spectacular is the grind of prime rib moistened with mushroom duxelles, goat cheese and truffle oil; it's topped with domestic Gouda and hickory-smoked onions. And then there's dessert: who can best the chocolate butterscotch mousse torte with candied cashews? Intimate and decked out in hot pink and peach with bar stools around an open kitchen, the place makes a funky destination.
