Capital Grille Description:
Located just across the street from the National Gallery of Art, the Capital Grill is a favorite of lobbyists and the Washington elite. Its menu features aged steaks, the cooler visible as you enter, as well as well-regared seafood and unique house specialities, such as fresh pineapple marinated in vodka. The wood-paneled dining room is spacious enough for private conversations in the high-backed, overstuffed leather chairs.
The menu at this clubby chain steakhouse on the Capitol end of Pennsylvania Avenue is much like that of any other such steakhouse---massive cuts of aged beef, giant lobsters, cottage fries and creamed spinach. We must admit, though, that we haven't found the beef (which is displayed in the windowed walk-in refrigerator near the entrance) to be up to the quality of that at such other power steakhouses as Morton's and Ruth's Chris. The wine list has a good selection of French and California bottles.
