At first you may see it perched above Hwy. 494, a stylish little building nestled among the corporate towers. If you can find your way to Ciao Bella via the winding frontage road, you will be rewarded. Once you pass through the doors, all your suburban traffic angst will disappear as you take in the richly colored surroundings. The mural above the bar beckons you like a bunch of old friends, and the smells from the open applewood-fire grill draw you to your table where you can contemplate your menu. You will find funky pizzas and pastas with flavorful sauces. Start with the fire-roasted Bruschetta, which has a delightful smoky hint along with its balsamic zing. Some of the entrées can be a bit boring and predictable, but the Chianti braised lamb shank stands above the rest. Like its comfortable and highly designed interior, the menu is not traditionally Italian; it employs safe twists on old favorites. Service can be a bit inconsistent, sometimes lacking in professionalism. But maybe you'll be so happy to have found a haven in the 494/France area that you won't mind.
