Located on the NorthWest corner of France Ave. and Sunnyside Rd.
The first thing you notice when you walk into this Edina diner is the mighty grill, double-sized and black, steaming away under an enormous vent. The next, a waitress in a sharp white apron hustling across the dining room, a tray of silver malt cans held high over her head. 50s music plays in the background, vanilla, cherry and lemon cokes are on the menu and there is neon everywhere, but for all the diner trappings the Convention Grill never stoops to kitsch. Instead expect an authentic burger joint experience, with burgers so juicy they almost fall apart, salty skin-on fries and creamy malts. They also serve respectable meat loaf and chicken sandwiches but we rarely bother. One of the great joys of the Convention Grill: watching the waitress expertly tap out your malt, thick as lava, into a fluted glass, then setting down the can as if to say, Try that at home, mister.
