How a national chain creates such a neighborly feeling in each of its locations is a mystery, but Einstein Bros Bagels manages to do so in style. The bagels are pretty good, too, whether flecked with chocolate chips, dotted with sun-dried tomatoes or traditionally decked with Nova lox, capers and red onion. Breakfast brings panini, omelet sandwiches and a reduced-fat shmear to top those bagels, while lunch expands on the theme by adding salads and challah or ciabatta sandwiches to a roster of well-stuffed bagels. Combinations are intriguing, like the Club Mex, with its turkey, smoked bacon, pepperjack cheese, ancho lime mayo and veggies. Service is generally quick, and most locations are open until 5 p.m. for an afternoon nosh.
