Rice & Noodles Description:
With all the Thai restaurants in the DC metro area, this tiny place in Franconia might just as well fade from the scene. Run by a young man with a restaurant-owning Thai mother, everything should be in place for a smashing success. Instead, the kitchen missteps even with the basics. Take the Crying Tiger—a grilled beef salad that calls for loads of crushed chilies and plenty of chopped cilantro—for example; it was bland and uninteresting, and would have done perfectly well in a Western steak sandwich. And the so-called crispy duck entrée swam in a pond of pan juices. Even the Thai custard—not made on the premises—which should have been thick with soaked mung beans was mostly whipped eggs with some spices. But since the nearest Thai restaurant is miles down the road, you can stop in for a Thai break when the mood strikes. Besides, the prices are reasonable, making this a good spot for family eating.
