Mediterranean Grill Description:
Part of a local group of family-owned restaurants, this Frederick eatery boasts an eclectically cool décor suggesting the Mediterranean with its oranges and yellows and polished brass fittings, but the food itself is the real prizewinner. How can you shrug off spicy green tea chai and a thick-as-a-milkshake strawberry smoothie, made doubly rich by the addition of heavy cream? The Lebanese meze appetizer platter with samplings of hummus, pita bread, kibbeh and stuffed grape leaves whets appetites for what's beyond: sandwiches. Noontime eating calls for lighter fare, so the beef gyro and the lamb shwarma are ideal picks. At a later hour, turn to a shwarma platter or a kafta kabab or even something not so ethnic like the all-American, 18-ounce T-bone steak. And no meal here would be complete without this version of baklava, a serving of which comes as four syrup-drenched rectangles that would satisfy most sugar cravings.
