Kata Robata Sushi & Grill Description:
When Hue didn't work, the Azuma Group quickly replaced it with Kata Robata, added a sushi bar and hit pay dirt. But what makes this spot really impressive is Manubu "Hori" Horiuchi. As the executive chef at Kata Robata, Horiuchi has created a menu that successfully marries contemporary and traditional styles. Start with translucent slices of snapper sashimi touched with truffle oil, or the tangy uni and king crab spoons. We planned to pass on the rolls until the waiter insisted we try the Caribbean roll. We weren't disappointed with the crispy fried lobster and spicy tuna tube, rolled with eel sauce and orange and wasabi tobiko. And while it's tempting to fill up on the sushi and sashimi, the grill items are also notable. Deep-fried soft shell crab crusted with panko crumbs, is a crunchy delight, as is the surf 'n' turf with rib-eye and lobster tempura. Rice bowls and bento boxes, as well as a not-quite spicy chicken salad mixed with grilled chicken, cucumbers and pine nuts, are good lunch options.
