Bartley's Dockside Dining Description:
Serves fresh local seafood, either outside on the deck by the water, or by candlelight inside. Well known for Mrs. B's blueberry pie, the internet cafe, the Kennebunkport webcams, and George Bush.
Bartley's offers familiar Maine cuisine and friendly service in a spot that looks like a tourist trap but is a true family restaurant. The restaurant's pride and joy is the lobster bake with the crustaceans going up to three pounds, but the caramelized salmon is a favorite too. In season, step into this riverside establishment just off Route 9 and you are likely to see at least one of the Bartleys in the kitchen or behind the counter, ready to start up a lively conversation. The hearty bouillabaisse includes an ocean's worth of seafood floating in tomato broth---and there are always four or five steaks to choose from. Mrs. B.'s blueberry pie is another favorite, and a fine introduction to Maine cuisine. Don't look for an upscale ambience though---neither the political memorabilia covering the walls or the proximity to one of the busiest thoroughfares in touristy Kennebunkport makes for a relaxing repast. But if you are in the mood for simply prepared seafood and a little old-fashioned local charm, Bartley's is a good option.
