Hogfish Bar & Grill Description:
On a marina where the Cuba ferry used to dock sprawls this laid-back fish shack, complete with pool tables, juke boxes and as few walls as possible. In a context of artist studios, foundries, trailer parks, and live-aboards, this restaurant keeps it real, not packaged for tourists. You'll dine alongside fishermen (sometimes still in their white rubber boots), and if you're lucky, see the catch come in off of the fishing boats. True to its name, the Hogfish also serves hogfish---a tender snapper with a scallop-like flavor, highly-prized and scarce on menus. If it's available at all then it's available here. This is also the place to enjoy a New England-style lobster roll or a lobster BLT made with Florida spiny tails, or a Baja-style fish taco that will knock your socks off. Buckets of cold beer, chilly margaritas, some funky, live music and you're living in the Keys the way it used to be. And still is, at this place.
