Whenever we slip into a Naugahyde booth at this traditional New York-style deli, we feel like we've time-traveled back to the 1950s---an impression relieved only by wall displays of framed posters from today's hot movies and autographed pictures from celebs as diverse as Leonard Nimoy, Magic Johnson and Mayor James Hahn. You can't go wrong here with the generous sandwiches featuring classic deli meats, both solo and in indulgent combinations, on crusty rye bread. But even our diet-conscious vegetarian friends have found satisfaction in the generous salads on the lengthy menu. Breakfast here sometimes feels like a Hollywood kaffeeklatsch, and we enjoy eavesdropping while filling up on the classic matzo brei---Jewish-style French toast made by soaking the traditional crackerlike unleavened bread in beaten egg.
