Nagao Description:
This compact sushi bar is where the young and beautiful Brentwood elite go to enjoy traditional yellowtail and neighborhood specials like the Brentwood Roll (enoki mushroom tempura, crab, asparagus, avocado and salmon skin). Depending on which sushi chef you get, you are either in for moderate entertainment or a complete black hole. The deal changes entirely if you are a regular. The quality of fish is usually good, and we've enjoyed such out-of-the-ordinary offerings as white tuna salad with earthy burdock root and spicy radish sprouts (never mind that the tuna is pink). Nagao is also notable for box sushi---a style used in western Japan that is seldom seen in this country---involving a compact loaf with rainbow layers of delicacies like smelt eggs and crab.
