Zucca Ristorante Description:
An authentic, gourmet Italian bistro: who would believe this is the result of crossing a German chef with a California office building? It seems superchef Joachim Splichal, of Patina fame, can spin into success any concept that catches his fancy. The proof is, once again, in the pudding---or should we say pasta?---with Zucca, his first L.A. flirtation with Italian cuisine. The menu reads almost like a road map of Italy: wood oven-roasted mussels, grilled filet mignon with brandy and pink peppercorns, and whole rotisserie chicken in a Florentine style. The pastas, prepared fresh daily, are a menu highlight, with preparations representing the major regions (Piemontese tortelloni and pappardelle alla boscaiola, etc.) Set in a beautiful space, the furnishings are as authentic as the recipes. The rough-hewn floors were transported from a Tuscan farmhouse, the chandeliers hand-blown in Vienna and the ceramics hand-painted in Florence.
