Brite Spot Family Restaurants Description:
Retro diners have popped up all over town, but why not try the real thing? Brite Spot has been serving eggs, burgers, melts and more for nearly 60 years. And it's not like the owners aimed for a retro look---they just never really got around to updating during all those decades. In some ways, it's a design disaster, with faux brick floors, candy apple-red faux leather booths, fringed bordello-style lamps and sconces. But regulars---young East side scenesters as well as young Los Feliz families complete with baby and nanny in tow---pack the place for generous portions of old favorites. Choose between bean, turkey and soy patties for your burger. Beware the mountain of crispy fries that accompanies it and most other sandwiches, and consider splitting heftier main courses like patty melts and even the Cobb and chef's salads. And vegetarians aren't overlooked, with a whole page of options set aside for those who eschew meat. Sweets come from Delilah Bakery and Sweet Lady Jane. Sadly, in true diner style, espresso is not on the menu, so you'll have to stick with coffee.
