Edo Sushi Description:
This unassuming suburban strip-mall dweller does a fine job of turning out Japanese basics. Sushi and its variants---maki, sashimi, chirashi sushi---are all prepared with care. Edo puts down a killer tonkatsu---that pork cutlet is fried crisp and juicy inside its panko coating and served on a bed of rice with a plummy sauce for dipping. The wasabi shu mai hit just the right notes of tingly hot and gently sweet, while hot bowls of udon are packed with tender ropes of wheat noodles and toppings of tempura or tonkatsu. For a special treat, try Edo Soup. It arrives in a small teapot packed with tender seafood and black mushrooms, topped by a small cup for enjoying the broth. Sweetly attentive service and a homey, wood-paneled dining room complete the picture. Bring your own bottle. Sister Edos can be found at the Inner Harbor and at two locations in Owings Mills.
