Ah, only in America could you find a Wal-Mart as the anchor of a suburban shopping center with a sophisticated Japanese restaurant at the other end. Café Sushi stands at the entrance to the Cambridge Crossing, under a monstrous lavender clock structure. Once you've found that (how can you miss it?), the place itself will overwhelm you with understated elegance. The look is predominantly European but don't let that fool you: the menus are Japanese in flavor. There's a sushi menu, an appetizer menu and the dinner menu. After sushi, sample the beef teriyaki, tender and deeply satisfying for any meat lover, served on a bed of bean sprouts, with steamed carrots and potatoes. The salmon teriyaki, served the same way, is not overdone, but delicate. Shrimp tempura is light and crunchy, not heavy like the worst of its ilk can be. Main courses come with traditional miso soup and a rice bowl. Nabemono is also available, done to your liking tableside. Then there are omakase dinners. You could say that your meal, whether it be strictly sushi, your choice or the chef's, is a blend of the best of East and West.
