Staropolska Restaurant Description:
If you don't know the meaning of the phrase "Tu Jadamy Jak U Mamy," you certainly will by the time you finish dining on heaping plates of pirogen, potato pancakes, kielbasa, stuffed cabbage and cheese blintzes at Staropolska. New Britain is home to Connecticut's largest population of Polish immigrants, and this restaurant is filled with all of the smells and even the sights---via satellite TV---of the Motherland. The restaurant's aim isn't to impress you with its décor; it's to stuff your belly---affordably. For about ten bucks, you can wash down a plate of bacon, cheese and potato pirogi with a pint of Piast or Zywiec and call it a meal; but if your Mamy never cooked the rich specialty that is pork cutlet a la Gdansk---a tender pork loin stuffed with mushrooms and onions---or made you hunter's stew, branch (and fill) out a little by trying them first.
