American Sector Description:
When you think of museum restaurants, you probably envision watercress salads, dainty sandwiches and artsy pastries. Think again---chef John Besh has created the ultimate twenty-first-century museum eatery, inside The National World War II Museum. And, oddly enough, although the concept looks and feels very now, the menu aligns itself with the museum, offering items that were popular before many people were born. Consider the tomato soup with a grilled ham and cheese sandwich, or the bologna sandwich with chow chow. Jonesing for chicken and dumplings, or meatloaf or shrimp Creole? This is your place. And be sure not to miss the chicken-fried steak with mushroom gravy, or old-fashioned meatloaf with mashed potatoes. This is pure comfort food in a bright, airy atmosphere, served by men and women in decidedly 1940s garb. The very up-to-date bar takes up the entire center of the place, and best of all, you can order an old-fashioned milk shake or a banana split. All that's missing is Andy Hardy. Did you just say "Who's that?" Oh…never mind.
