Cafe Rose Nicaud Description:
If there was one thing missing on busy Frenchmen Street, it was a nice coffee house. Enter Café Rose Nicaud. If the name sounds slightly mysterious, fear not: Rose Nicaud was a slave who became the first coffee vendor in New Orleans, and who bought her freedom with her earnings. Rose would never have envisioned her name attached to free wireless Internet access; good, strong coffee; and better-than-average breakfast and lunch fare, but that it is. The vibe is somewhere between hip and cozy, which helps explain the diverse clientele, and the place certainly has more soul than national chain coffee shops with similar offerings. The menu includes sandwiches, freshly made salads, house-made soups, plenty of options for vegetarians and baked goods for the morning or an anytime snack. Beer (occasionally) and wine are available, as well as fresh juices.
