Ralph's on the Park Description:
This elegant restaurant is perched right on the border of City Park, one of the nation's largest urban parks. Despite being on its third chef since the departure of Gerard Maras, who opened the place and set high expectations for its culinary achievements, the establishment has remained on track, thanks largely to the steady hand of veteran local restaurateur Ralph Brennan. Brennan's smartest innovation was the introduction of a small-plates menu, in addition to his entrée list. The small-plates menu may feature such items as salt-and-vinegar frogs' legs, a flaky, flavorful crab meat napoleon, corn flake-crusted shrimp and even a Vietnamese calamari with pork tenderloin stuffing. Full entrées run the gamut from saffron-braised lamb cheeks to a Korean-style barbecued hanger steak. The wine list balances interesting small-lot wines from the world over with less impressive but still drinkable California brand name selections. Reserve a window seat overlooking City Park, or settle in at the bar.
