The Delachaise Description:
The unusually narrow building that houses The Delachaise has sheltered various businesses over the years, including a neighborhood bar, but not until The Delachaise moved in did it become a true local destination. With red walls and banquettes, a window-lined front section and secluded back seating area, The Delachaise lives up to its romantic position along the Uptown streetcar line. Beyond mere ambience, however, the towering chalkboards behind the bar list a first-rate selection of wines, beers and spirits to complement the menu. Expect the unexpected at The Delachaise: only in New Orleans would one find matzoh ball soup and pork ragù on the same menu. There's always a pasta dish of the night, and a special is offered each evening as well. Small plates include such items as artisan cheese plates, steamed mussels and some good vegetarian choices. While the food and its pricing are on par with that of ambitious local bistros, The Delachaise is first and foremost a bar, featuring 70 wines, 50 international beers and dozens of liqueurs.
