Ye Olde College Inn Description:
Proprietor John Blancher moved this 1930s-era institution to a less hurricane-damaged, and a little more elegant, building next door. People still come for the big portions and reasonable prices, though now a few more upscale items add options to the menu. Gargantuan onion rings, appropriately greasy hamburgers and home-style hot plates are the leaders of the pack, while grilled mahi mahi with wilted spinach is a lighter alternative. Fried green tomatoes and a shrimp rémoulade po' boy are also worthy options. Blancher also owns the bowling alley-music club Mid-City Lanes Rock'N'Bowl (located adjacent to the restaurant) and sometimes he offers free passes to the evening's show with the purchase of an entrée at College Inn, so dinner here can be just the start of a rocking evening.
