Eat Restaurant Description:
What once was a drab little French Quarter corner eatery has been artfully transformed into a casual, SoHo-inspired café. Shiny wood floors, oversize windows with sailor-cloth curtains and crisp white paper overlays on white linen cloths add up to a bright, inviting space. Eat is ideal for a lingering morning breakfast, and just as suited to a quiet romantic dinner after dark. Don't look for alcoholic beverages here, but feel free to bring your own. No corkage is charged. If you think you see the same appetizer on almost every table, you may be right. The blue cheese and fig torte is a fine combination of sharp and sweet, and the dish has become a house signature. This is one of the few places in town you can find good lox and bagels, and just under-fried green tomatoes with rémoulade sauce on the same menu. Dinners at Eat are hearty; some are slow cooked or smoked, and nicely seasoned. The tender pot-roasted chicken and the fried okra are about as Southern as it gets.
