Bar Blanc Description:
Set on a tranquil, tree-lined West Village street, this sleek eatery is on the radar of hip night owls who crowd the white marble bar at the front of a long narrow room that's bedecked in sleek, pale hues. If only the food made as much an impact as the noise. (Chef César Ramiriz has left the restaurant and Sebastiaan Zijp picks up the reigns.) A bland salad topped with spongy sweetbreads and rabbit terrine may precede a dreamily moist slow-cooked organic chicken. The dried-out milk-fed porcelet seems to have been weaned too early, but the circular lamb shoulder lasagna with paper-thin sheets of pasta stands proud on a score of black trumpet mushrooms. The Meyer lemon soufflé and the chocolate cake with salty caramel ice cream draw a sweet and colorful coda to a somewhat pale experience. And if the noise gets too unbearable, you can always indulge in another bottle of wine from the long, nicely selected, but eclectic wine list.

Review :
My wife and I made a trip from NC to NYC to eat for the weekend, with a focus on French cuisine. Bar Blanc Bistro made the list of potentials. After a quick beverage in tourist-town at the View in the Marquis, we headed to the West Village to try it, with promises of Salmon in tomato sauce, mussels, and other great seafood dishes on our minds...
The reality was not as expected. It's a modern dining room, and I found the chairs to be uncomfortable. My wife did like the white couches which are admittedly pretty cool. None of the dishes from earlier blogs were present, and the ones that had replaced them did not excite either of us. While many of these reviews focus on ambience, atmosphere and decor - we were just looking for great food. We found it - to an extent - but my dish was by far the better of the two, a NY Strip Steak. Also, I found the winter to be quite a treat; with poached egg, Boston red Lettuce, hearts of palm, a balsamic vinaigrette and pecorino cheese. Very good, but the food was not as amazing as hoped. However, my wife's papardelle dish was too much - the flavors were overwhelming and were overdone. The chicken confit, olive oil and spinach sounded great, but in the end, the overwhelming flavor was salt - and it required a lot of water. Her dish, and my steak dish coupled with a newbie waiter, a din of noise and the overall crowded, modern feel to the restaurant are what we'll remember. The slightly above average food on my side did not outweigh the overall experience, and the 2-star recommendation is the result. Still, I cannot dissuade you from the experience. It is worth trying, but there are many other places I'd go first.
