Lucy Latin Kitchen Description:
There are few places in the world where you can browse for a Persian rug or new furniture and then mull over possible purchases at an elegant restaurant in the same space. Welcome to ABC Kitchen, Jean-Georges Vongerichten's restaurant on the ground floor of ABC Carpet & Home. In keeping with the style of the moment---that is, 2010---the food here is all organic and locally sourced. The menu is lengthy, made up of pre-starter starters (called Market Table), starters, whole-wheat pizzas, pasta dishes, and mains. The inventive pretzel-encrusted calamari was texturally sound and fun to eat. The farro, chickpea and white bean soup managed to be hearty and refreshing at the same time. For entrées, the crispy chicken was remarkably juicy while the chili-herbed black sea bass was a masterful exercise in subtlety, as the spices it's cooked with---dill, basil, mint---infuse the flaky fish with a complex taste that makes ABC Kitchen more than an elementary restaurant. The wine list, a notch or two in price higher than we would like, offers some first-rate selections, including a few by the glass. And drink enough of it, and you just might end up redecorating your house.
