A theater-district legend, Sardi's honors its Broadway clientele in the more than 1,000 caricatures covering the walls. The main dining room, done in dark burgundy with glittering chandeliers, is comfortable; the upstairs rooms are open to actors (just show your Equity card). Updated Continental fare comprises Sardi's classic menu and includes everything from jumbo lump crab cakes with chipotle chile rémoulade, roasted sweet corn and bell peppers to grilled filet mignon sided with caramelized shallots, potato purée and roasted portobello mushrooms. The cannelloni au gratin---beef, veal and sausage rolled in a French crêpe with a sherry-tomato cream sauce---is one of the house classics. On Thursdays and Fridays you'll find jazz and cabaret performances.
