Wawa Canteen Description:
Tucked away down Mercer Street (just north of Waverly Place), this small and sleek eatery quietly (and quickly) produces some of the best Korean dishes in lower Manhattan. Kimchi stew, generously portioned and served in a large ceramic bowl, is spicy enough to dazzle the taste buds, but not so much that it eclipses the complex flavors. Likewise, the pajun, a savory pancake with seafood and scallion cooked inside, is crispy on the outside and flavorful inside. Steamed dumplings, rice dishes and salads round out the short menu. The bibimbop is one of the most popular dishes, and with good reason: it's a veritable feast of fresh and lightly pickled vegetables with your choice of tofu or beef.
