5th Season Restaurant Description:
Formerly a hot spot in Greenport, Fifth Season is now a homey two-story restaurant in Port Jefferson Village. Chefs-owners John Urbinati and Erik Orlowski pride themselves on providing a fresh, local experience with farm-raised meats and organic produce, and all wine and beer on the broad drink menu are produced in the United States. In keeping with the restaurant's name, the menu changes every 12 weeks, and the quality of the food certainly encourages return visits to experience the eclectic offerings. Seasonal soups and a crisp Caesar salad are mainstay appetizers, but try organic chicken wontons with pineapple-coconut dipping sauce to start for a mix of crunch, tang, and sweetness brought together by the moist chicken. A grilled skirt steak with sautéed spinach, warm fingerling potato salad, Parmesan, and truffle butter is a fine play on comfort food. Dessert choices abound, but both vanilla bean crème brûlée and pineapple upside-down cake with toasted coconut and coconut gelato are especially subtle yet satisfying.
