Du-par's in Oxnard follows the same formula that's worked for this southland diner since 1938: legendary buttermilk pancakes (the recipe is locked away at the restaurant's original L.A. location), American pies and an old-fashioned, no-nonsense aesthetic. Now that the nearby Thousand Oaks Du-pars has closed, generations of locals bring their offspring here to continue the custom of packing it away---24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Besides those pedigreed pancakes and other breakfast dishes, you can get hot open-face sandwiches, burgers, fish 'n' chips, braised short ribs, plus salmon with lemon and dill. Early birds can take advantage of the "beat-the-clock" menu every day from 4 p.m-6 p.m., which lists five meal choices priced between $4 and $6, depending on the time you order it.
